Why Do I Need A USA Hockey Registration
As a beer league hockey player, you need a USA hockey registration if the rink you play at requires you to have it. All of the rinks I have ever played at have required me to have a USA Hockey number in order to play in a league. USA Hockey membership is usually required when you play a game that is being officiated.
You do not need a USA hockey number in order to participate in stick and pucks, pick up games, and practices. When there are referees you will most likely need a USA Hockey membership.
USA Hockey is the governing body that sets the rulebook for adult league hockey in the united states.
How Much Does A USA Membership Cost
A USA Hockey membership for a player will cost $56. The membership itself costs $46 plus an “affiliate Fee” of $10 which may or may not apply to you.
As a referee, your registration fee will change with your level. A level 1 referee will pay a $45 fee, while level 2-4 will pay a $90 registration fee. These are numbers before the affiliate fee.
To register as a USA Hockey coach your fee is $46 plus any applicable affiliate fees. However, if you are already registered as a player you do not have to pay an additional fee to be a coach but you do need to take a coaching education course.

How Long Is A USA Hockey Membership Good For?
As a player, your USA Hockey membership will be valid until August 31st of each year. USA Hockey will not prorate the cost or change the date of renewal. This means that it doesn’t matter the month you register in; it could be September, January, or May, your membership will need to be renewed before August 31st.
As a referee, you will need to register between June 1st through January 31st.
